The Gist

Your adventure begins in Lima, where your haggling skills will be tested as you try to find the best possible machine that your limited pesos can buy. It’s like Bargain Hunt with the sweet old ladies there to bake you muffins and make you a cup of tea. And by 'tea and muffins' we meant questionable car parts. And by sweet old ladies we mean shrewd second-hand car dealers.

Once you have acquired your fine 3 door pre WWII motor, have attached the necessary rubber bands to the pistons and bag over the missing window, you will then race it across Peru into Ecuador, up through Colombia, across Venezuela and into Guyana, where a great little welcome party awaits.

Along the way, you will encounter a melting pot of indigenous languages and cultures and one of the most diverse landscapes in the world as you cross the Andes, the fertile plains of Los Llanos, the longest Caribbean coastline of any one country and the Amazonian basin before emerging at the other end a glorious fully fledged adventurer. Simple!

As long as you do not break down. Or get lost. Or arrested. Or crash. Or be too sensible...

The Charities

On route you will also meet some interesting locals, try some bizarre foods, visit some charities and community projects and party in the capitals. Since all this fun will undoubtedly attract a lot of attention from your envious friends back home, we want to use this attention to raise the profile of some amazing local charities. So we will give you the option of stopping off at them along the way and we will be there to film it. This way, the resulting international exposure will enhance their fundraising efforts beyond our adventure. Obviously you do not have to stop if you do not want to, but the opportunity will be there for the taking.

If, however, you decide to go native and get lost amidst the beauty of that exotic continent, there will be a celebratory event waiting for you in Georgetown so that you can bask in all the glory of having completed this unique rally and be able to share some of your hardened traveller stories with your fellow mentalists.
